Urging Starksboro residents to vote on school budget
To my fellow Starksboro Taxpayers,
I am writing to ask every registered voter in Starksboro to come to the Reconsideration of the Robinson Elementary Budget meeting at Mt. Abe, Saturday, May 2, at 9 a.m. This reconsideration opportunity was made possible by a group of taxpayers who got a petition together and signed in response to the unprecedented increase in the Robinson budget voted from the floor at Town Meeting.
There is also a petition being circulated to ask the town to vote to have the Robinson Budget be changed to Australian Ballot so that folks who can’t make it to Town Meeting will have the opportunity to vote whether at the polls on voting day or by absentee or early voting. However, this vote on Saturday is still a voice vote, which means that you have to be present to have a vote.
I understand that many parents have a lot of conflicts on Saturday with school sports events and busy lives. I would encourage everyone to try their very best to make this meeting a priority. Whether you think that the budget increase was a mistake or you support it, the only voice you will have about the outcome will be if you are present and voting on Saturday.
Voting is our responsibility, not our right.
