MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated the theft of a cash register from the Rice Restaurant on Seymour Street on Saturday, April 18.
Police said a man grabbed the register during business hours (at around 5:20 p.m.) and ran out the door. A witness reported the culprit ran into a wooded, swampy area off Maple Street, where he may have dumped the register.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Middlebury police at 388-3191.

•  Seized marijuana pipes on April 13 from a vehicle that had been pulled over on Route 7 North for defective equipment.
•  Responded to a domestic disturbance at an Elm Street residence on April 13.
•  Assisted Optics Ltd. store officials with a bad check complaint on April 14.
•  Assisted Taylor Rental with a complaint about a customer who was late paying a bill on April 14.
•  Received a report that some prescription drugs had been stolen from a North Pleasant Street apartment on April 14.
•  Were informed on April 14 that people have again been camping along the banks of the Otter Creek behind Otter Creek Child Center on Weybridge Street.
•  Assisted a farm hand in returning two cows to their enclosure off East Main Street on April 15.
•  Responded to a noise complaint on Merchants Row on April 15.
•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a man who had fallen from the roof of a South Pleasant Street building on April 15.
•  Were informed that someone had fraudulently used a local resident’s ATM card to make a purchase in Texas on April 15.
•  Cited a juvenile Middlebury Union High School student for allegedly punching another student in the face on April 15. Police said the youth was cited for simple assault and disorderly conduct.
•  Received a report that some gas cans and chain saws had been stolen from a Quarry Road residence on April 15.
•  Responded to a noise complaint at a Seminary Street home on April 16.
•  Investigated a three-car accident with a minor injury on Court Street on April 16.
•  Assisted state police with a man with mental health issues on Route 7 North on April 16.
•  Served a relief from abuse order on a local man on behalf of the Grand Isle Sheriff’s Department on April 17.
•  Warned a driver who had allegedly been tailgating an ambulance on Court Street on April 17.
•  Investigated a two-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer on Court Street Extension on April 17. Police said some people involved in the accident sustained minor injuries.
•  Received a report about a man allegedly stuffing a backpack into the wood pellet chute at the Memorial Baptist Church off South Pleasant Street on April 17. Police said they were unable to find the culprit.
•  Assisted a Valley View family that reported having an out-of-control son on April 17.
•  Issued court diversion paperwork to a youth for being in possession of alcohol on Main Street on April 17.  Police said they also seized a fake ID from the youth.
•  Issued court diversion paperwork to a youth who had presented a fake ID card in an attempt to get into Two Brothers Tavern on April 18. The youth had also consumed alcohol, according to police.
•  Investigated a report of a man and woman having a loud argument on College Street on April 18. Police said they were unable to locate the couple.
•  Responded to a report of a person driving erratically on Court Street on April 18.
•  Responded to a dispute between some Stonegate Drive neighbors on April 18.
•  Were informed of the discovery of some liquor bottles and marijuana that had been found near the intersection of Court Street and Creek Road on April 18.
•  Were informed of a cow on the loose near East Main Street on April 18. Police said the cow was returned to nearby Addison County Commission Sales.
•  Investigated a suspected domestic incident involving a Middlebury College student in the South Main Street area on April 20.
•  Cited Christopher Shores, 21, of Middlebury for driving with a criminally suspended driver’s license on Rogers Road on April 19.
•  Quieted a loud party at a Butternut Ridge Drive residence on April 19.
•  Warned two women involved in a loud party on Weybridge Street on April 19.
•  Assisted a Court Street resident who was upset about a Facebook post on April 19.
•  Assisted Two Brothers Tavern on April 19 with a drunken man who had allegedly urinated on the floor in the lower level of the establishment. Police served a no-trespass order on the man.
•  Assisted Two Brothers Tavern in dispersing a crowd that had gathered in front of the bar on April 19.
•  Received into evidence a “drug snorting tube” that a person had found off Porter Drive on April 19.
