Opera house lease up for a vote
VERGENNES — In addition to dealing with the proposed East Street preschool playground, Vergennes aldermen at their Tuesday meeting also:
• Set the required public hearing for the citywide vote on an amended Vergennes Opera House lease for April 28 during the next city council meeting. The vote will be held on May 5 in conjunction with the revote of the Vergennes Union High School budget. City and theater officials have agreed to add the so-called ticket booth room on City Hall’s first floor to the opera house lease, a move that requires residents’ approval.
• Accepted the resignation of Rebecca Ray from the planning commission. City Manager Mel Hawley said after the recent addition of two members to the commission it still has seven members, and that aldermen did not have to replace Ray. Council members took no action.
