Man with knife robs Vergennes bank; police seek leads

UPDATED: VERGENNES — Someone robbed the People’s United Bank on Main Street in Vergennes on Friday afternoon, Vergennes police said.
State police said a man in a blue sweatshirt and black scarf entered the bank around 2:15 p.m., brandished a knife and demanded cash from the teller. The teller complied, and the man exited and headed north on North Maple Street, where he was last seen. Vergennes police and state troopers, including a K-9 unit, soon arrived on scene. Police described the suspect as a white man in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5 foot 6 and weighing 180 to 200 pounds. He also wore blue jeans, black leather gloves and hiking boots.
