Otter girls’ drop final two games heading into basketball playoffs

FAIR HAVEN — The Otter Valley Union High School dropped its final two games of the regular season late last week to finish at 3-17.
It appears the Otters will be the No. 16 seed in the Division II playoffs and play at No. 1 Lake Region (18-2) early this week. The Vermont Principals’ Association was set to announce pairings early on Monday.
In Thursday’s Senior Night home game, OV rallied from an 28-8 second-quarter deficit to within five, 38-33, against visiting Mill River when Laura Beth Roberts hit a three midway through the fourth period. But MRU got back on track to pull away, hitting six-of-six from the line down the stretch in a 51-39 victory.
Kylie Bessette (13 points) and Amy Jones (nine) led OV vs. the 15-5 Minutemen, who will enter the postseason as the No. 3 seed in D-II.
On Saturday, host Fair Haven shut down OV, 41-7, as Slater Lindsey Marcy recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds, Coach Kyle Wilson earned his 100th career win, and the 11-9 Slaters probably earned the No. 7 seed in D-II. Lexi Quenneville added seven points and Jenna Alexander six for the Slaters.
