NORTHFIELD — Vergennes Union High School senior Chris Castillo won the Division II boys’ triple jump at 37 feet, 8 inches to highlight efforts by local athletes at Saturday’s indoor track championship meet, which was held at Norwich University.
Other local athletes who earned top-three placings were VUHS senior Ally Stearns in the girls’ shotput and Willem Landis, a member of Middlebury’s club indoor track team, who took third in the boys’ 3,200-meter race.
The Commodore boys scored 21 points to finish eighth out of 13 teams, while the VUHS girls recorded nine points for a 10th-place finish. Rice Memorial won both D-II titles.
