Opinion: Vergennes city council candidate is highly qualified
On Thursday, Jan. 29, you reported on candidates running for Vergennes City Council. I would like to take the time to offer more information on Jeff Fritz.
Since moving to our community, he has been involved in a very large way. Not only does he support Vergennes with his time, but with any resources he is able to offer. I have been involved with him in planning for the Bixby Library and the Vergennes Opera House. In addition, he is president of the Boys and Girls Club, is a justice of the peace, serves as commissioner of the Vergennes Panton Water District, and chairs the Northlands Job Corps Community Relations Committee. He and his partner were the inspiration and underwriters of the Vergennes Carnevale held at our opera house. They worked tirelessly on this event, which raised thousands of dollars to benefit the opera house and the Vergennes Partnership. Yes, he and his partner are renovating one of the most beautiful houses in Vergennes but to leave people with the impression that is the only thing Jeff Fritz does or is known for is far from the truth.
I am hopeful that Vergennes voters will have an opportunity to hear more about Jeff Fritz and not be left with the first impression provided by your newspaper. We appreciate the reporting done by your newspaper, but this article could have used more information.
