Dunmore ice fishing derby draws 130 competitors
SALISBURY — Although the temperatures strayed only a few degrees above zero for much of the tournament, the Lake Dunmore Ice Fishing Derby this past Saturday and Sunday drew 130 participants.
The annual tournament drew entries from 120 adults and 10 children to submit entries at the Kampersville Store. Dan Dragon recorded the largest fish caught, a 6.31-pound pike.
A clerk at the store said it was so cold that for many the fish weren’t biting as much as they would on a slightly warmer weekend. Nevertheless, there were champions named in all six categories.
The category winners and placers were:
Pike: 1. Dan Dragon, 6.31 pounds; 2. Brent Warren, 5.79; 3. Jack Jones, 5.36.
Trout: 1. Derek Hathaway, 5.81; 2. Chip Lenz. 4.30; 3. Jamie Coburn, 3.89.
Salmon: 1. Heath Butler, 3.87; 2. John Davis, 3.73; 3. Ed Carter, 3.31.
Bass: 1. Cal Poulin, 4.34; 2. Chris Richard, 3.06; 3. Brent Warren, 2.24.
Catfish: 1. Dylan Disorda, 2.84.
Kids: 1. Derek Raymond, 1.35 pounds; 2. Piper Weeks, 0.70; 3. Keegan Brown, 0.41.
One Lake Dunmore resident, seeing the weight of the fish, commented: “Fellow fishermen, (the fish) are in there and we just need to figure out how to catch them in the summer.”
