Commodore, Tiger wrestlers place at tournaments

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Wrestlers from Vergennes and Middlebury union high schools fared well on Saturday at tournaments in Massachusetts and New York.
Faring best was Commodore 170-pounder Brandon Cousino, who won his weight class at the Mountie Invitational at Mount Greylock Union High School in Williamstown, Mass. Cousino won all four of his matches by pin and earned an extra trophy for the fastest pin recorded at the event, an 11-second victory.
Only two other Commodores also went along, with Jeb Hodsden taking second at 152 and Ethan Reardon reaching the podium in fourth at 132. With just the three wrestlers competing, VUHS was ninth out of 22 teams.
Meanwhile, five Tiger wrestlers earned top-four finishes at the Corinth (N.Y.) Invitational. Nathan Gebo at 113 and Nick Beauchamp at 195 led the way, each taking second in their weight classes.
Also, James Whitley finished third at 138, and two Tigers took fourth, Ben Murray at 120 and Dustin Davio at 126. Overall, the Tigers were sixth in a field of 10 varsity first-string teams and 10 more second-string teams.
