Principal vacancies in Bridport and Cornwall draw many candidates

BRIDPORT — Addison Central Supervisory Union officials are reporting a substantial number of applications from candidates seeking to fill principal vacancies at the Bridport and Cornwall elementary schools.
Peter Burrows, ACSU superintendent, confirmed the district has received 25 applications for the top administrative job at Bridport Central School and another 19 from those wishing to lead Cornwall’s Bingham Memorial School. Burrows said school directors in both towns plan to interview finalists for their respective principal vacancies next month.
Burrows noted both school communities made a point of embarking on their leadership searches in a timely and methodical fashion. They were able to do this, in part, by bringing in some veteran administrators to serve as interim principals. As a result, the schools were able to maintain a continuity of good leadership while the search process has played out.
Former Mary Hogan Elementary School Principal Bonnie Bourne and current Ripton Elementary Principal Tracey Harrington are co-managing the Bridport school for the 2014-2015 academic year. Former Principal Kathleen Kilbourne stepped down last year to take the top administrative post at Castleton Elementary School.
Former Salisbury Community School Principal Abi Sessions is now serving as interim principal for Cornwall’s Bingham School. She is a longtime resident of Cornwall. Former Principal Susan Hackett resigned last year in order to help her husband convalesce from a serious illness. She has accepted a part-time position as a leadership specialist with the district.
The Addison Independent will report the names of the new Bridport and Cornwall principals as soon as they accept their job offers.
