In boys’ hockey, Tigers split pair at home

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team split a pair of home games last week. The Tigers are 6-4-2 and enter this week in fourth place in Division II with a Wednesday game at Woodstock and a Saturday home game at 7 p.m. vs. Burlington on tap.
On Saturday, five Tigers scored in a 5-3 win over visiting St. Johnsbury (7-7). Tyler Crowningshield, Justin Stone, Colton Leno, Andrew Gleason, andNathan Lalonde all scored, and Crowningshield chipped in a pair of assists. The Tigers outshot the Hilltoppers, 29-18. Tiger goalie Sawyer Ryan made 15 saves, and St. J’s Cody Smith stopped 24 shots.
On Wednesday, visiting Burr & Burton (5-6-1) edged MUHS, 4-3, despite the Tigers’ 32-17 edge in shots on net. The Bulldogs scored three in the second and one early in the third to survive a Tiger rally, as Leno and Brett Viens both scored in the final period to bring MUHS within one. Crowningshield scored in the first to give the Tigers the lead, and Ryan stopped 13 shots. Joey Citera made 29 saves for BBA.
