Commodores place at indoor track meet
NORTHFIELD — A second-place finish on Saturday from Vergennes Union High School’s Chris Castillo highlighted the efforts of indoor track athletes from VUHS, Mount Abraham and Middlebury at a meet hosted by Norwich University.
With athletes from Division I and II schools competing together, Castillo’s leap of 18 feet, 11.5 inches was good for second place in the boys’ long jump.
Also placing for the Commodores was thrower Ally Stearns, whose toss of 28 feet, 9 inches gave her a fifth-place tie in the girls’ shot put.
Local finishers in other events were:
• Boys’ 55 meters: 15. Sebby Crowell, VUHS (7.0); 33. Chris Leach, VUHS; 52. Evan Meyers, VUHS.
• Boys’ 600: 26. Chris Carter, Mount Abe (1:39.9); 35. Xavier Provencher, VUHS; 37. Damien Morris, MUHS; 50. Willem Landis, MUHS.
• Boys’ 1,600: 19: Landis, MUHS (5:16.6); 44. Quinn D’Andrea, VUHS.
• Girls’ 55: 44. Alyse Beauchemin, VUHS (8.5).
• Girls’ 600: 16. Paige Stolen, VUHS, 1:56.7.
• Girls’ 1,600: 28. Sadie Kass, VUHS, 7:17.
