Area swimmers fare well at St. Michael’s
COLCHESTER — The Addison Otter swim team, based out of Bristol, and the Middlebury Aquatic Club competed at the GMA Winter Knight Team Specialty meet at St. Michael’s College Jan. 2-4.
Eight-year-old Ethan Croke was the top finisher for the Otters, winning the boys’ 8-and-under 25-yard butterfly in 26.15.
Three of the Otters swam the 500-yard freestyle race, which is 20 laps. The were Katie Mayer, age 17, with a time of 6:54.87, Leah Croke, 12, with a time of 6:55.36, and Abigail Roy, 11, with a time of 9:05.93.
Other highlights for the Otters were:
• Allison Croke, 3, girls’ 10-and-under 50 back.
• Leah Croke, 3, girls’ U-12 200 free.
• Katie Mayer, 3, girls’ open 100 breast.
• Erich Reitz, 2, boys’ U-12 100 free.
• Tess Ruddy, 2, girls’ U-12 50 breast.
• Emily Rooney, 2, girls U-12 100 free and 50 back,
Middlebury Aquatic saw victories from Meghan Denton, Thomas Denton, Mary Ann Eastman, Ellie Ross and Spencer Doran.
Megan Denton won the girls’ 8-U 25 freestyle; and she was second in the girls’8-U 100 free, 25 back, 25 breast and 25 fly. Her big brother Thomas Denton won five boys U-10 races: 50 back, 50 breast, 100 breast, 100 fly and 200 IM.
Eastman won the 12-U 200 free and 100 back. She was second in the 50 free. Ellie Ross won both the girls’ U-12 50 breast and the 100 breast. She was also second in 50 fly and 100 fly.
Will Carpenter won the boys’ U-12 50 back. Spencer Doran won the boys U-12 100 fly and was second in the 100 IM.
Other highlights for the Middlebury team were:
• Ivy Kate Doran, 2, U-10 50 back.
• Nora Wootten, 2, U-10 100 IM.
• Sam Wootten, 2, boys’ U-8 100 free.
• Pickles Henderson, 2, boys’ U-10 100 fly.
