Bixby Library free movies to start Friday
VERGENNES — Bixby Memorial Library in Vergennes kicks off its new Movie Club on Friday, Dec. 5.
The Movie Club will offer a free monthly film screening followed, after a short break, by an optional discussion. Popcorn will be served.
The Dec. 5 event features a 6 p.m. screening of “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” (PG-13). Local screenwriter Alex Jay Dubberly, whose Bixby Library screenwriting workshops have been a particular hit with participants, will introduce the film and lead the discussion.
This showing will also be the concluding tie-in event for the library’s Vermont Reads Wonder. The library’s extensive program of events included school visits, art projects, yoga and meditation, book reading and discussions, and additional reading suggestions. It will culminate in this first movie club screening.
Dubberly is a graduate of Keene State College and of Goddard College’s MFA in Creative Writing program. He has taught screenwriting courses and lectured at Keene State College, and led workshops for graduate students at Goddard College in Plainfield. He has also worked with high school students in Milford and Merrimack, N.H. He is a practicing screenwriter and poet.
