Swimmers open season with good efforts

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The young swimmers of the Middlebury Aquatic Club are off to a strong start, according to club officials, after a pair of meets in early November, one Nov. 2 at St. Michael’s College and one at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction on Nov. 7, 8 and 9. 
Organizers said between the two meets several club swimmers have already qualified to swim in events at February’s New England Regional Championship Meet and the New England Silver Championships Meet.
One swimmer, Thomas Denton, 10, also qualified to swim in six events at the New England 12 & Under Age Groups Championship Meet in February and March 2015 after winning all nine of his events at the UVAC meet.
Also earning one or more top-10 finishes at UVAC were Meghan Denton, 8; Mary Ann Eastman, 12; Madelyn Giroux, 8; Fraser Milligan, 12; Anna Rakowski, 11; Ellie Ross, 12; Holly Staats, 10; Nathan Stone, 11; Patrick Stone, 8; Nora Wootten, 9; and Sam Wootten, 7.
At St. Mike’s, Spencer Doran, 12, and Thomas Denton won two races apiece, and Ivy Kate Doran and Nathan Stone also swam to victories.
Earning top-10 results at the earlier meet were Aidan Chance, 9; Meghan Denton; Eastman, who was in the top five in all five of her events; Giroux and Charlie Hodson, 11, each of whom was second in one event; Grace Lebeau, 12; Siobhan Potter; Rakowski; Dylan Rapoport, 13; Emerson Rice, 8; Andy Rockwell, 11; and both Nora and Sam Wootten.
