Middlebury Police Log: MUHS students cited for marijuana
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited two Middlebury Union High School students for marijuana-related offenses on Oct. 24. Police cited one juvenile for possession of marijuana. They cited a second student for possession of marijuana, distribution of marijuana, and distribution of marijuana on school grounds.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Checked on the welfare of an elderly woman on Oct. 20 who had been incommunicado for a few days. Police said the woman had fallen in her North Pleasant Street residence and had been unable to get up. Police said the woman was taken to Porter Hospital for evaluation.
• Responded to a noise complaint at a Nashua Lane residence on Oct. 20. Police said the homeowner promised to keep the music down and address other noise issues.
• Were informed on Oct. 20 of a theft from the Village Depot store on Court Street on Oct. 20.
• Ticketed a person for a civil marijuana possession offense on Pulp Mill Bridge Road on Oct. 21. Police said the person was traveling in a vehicle that had been pulled over for an equipment issue.
• Received a report about a person in a silver car throwing shotgun shells at Middlebury College students on College Street on Oct. 21. Police said they were unable to find the vehicle.
• Removed a pedestrian crossing sign from the travel portion of Shannon Street on Oct. 22. Police received a report that a group of youths had placed the sign into the road, a prank authorities called “unoriginal and unfunny.”
• Responded to a car-versus-deer accident in the Twin Birches area on Oct. 22.
• Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS in tending to a local woman who had allegedly tried to commit suicide by overdosing on pills on Oct. 22. Police credited the woman’s friends for warning authorities about the suspected suicide attempt.
• Responded to a report of a person suspected to have been under the influence sitting in a vehicle off Bakery Lane on Oct. 23. Police said they could find no such person.
• Responded to a two-vehicle accident, with injuries, at the intersection of Route 7 South and Ossie Road on Oct. 23.
• Responded to a multi-car accident with no injuries on Route 7 South near Halladay Road on Oct. 23.
• Searched for a vehicle that had allegedly veered off Route 30 on Oct. 24. Police could not find such a vehicle.
• Were informed of the theft of a bicycle from Middlebury College campus on Oct. 24.
• Investigated a shoplifting complaint at Maplefields on North Pleasant Street on Oct. 24. Police are scrutinizing video of the alleged crime.
• Cited Ian Burton, 39, of Weybridge for driving under the influence (fourth offense) and driving with a suspended license, following a stop on Exchange Street on Oct. 24. Police said they measured Burton’s blood-alcohol content at 0.254 percent, more than three times Vermont’s legal limit of 0.08.
• Responded to a noise complaint at 107 Weybridge St. on Oct. 25. Police broke up a party and warned the tenant against further noise violations.
• Investigated a report about some people allegedly walking up Route 7 North wearing dark clothing on Oct. 25.
• Were informed of the theft of a pumpkin from the porch of a Jackson Lane residence on Oct. 25.
• Assisted Williston police in locating a person on Oct. 26.
• Were informed of the theft of some magnetic signs from a vehicle parked in the Twin Circles neighborhood on Oct. 26.
• Cited Christopher Shores, 20, of Middlebury for driving with a suspended license on Oct. 26.
• Warned a man who had been carrying an open container of alcohol on Adirondack View on Oct. 26.
• Issued court diversion paperwork to a youth who had been drinking alcohol in the Adirondack View neighborhood on Oct. 26.
