Opinion: Incumbents earn vote of support

Mike Fisher and Dave Sharpe have ably represented their district (Bristol, Lincoln, Monkton and Starksboro) in the Vermont Legislature for the last 12 years. We need their continued leadership in Montpelier.
Mike Fisher’s leadership as chair of the House Health Care Committee is critical to moving forward with health care reform. Mike is realistic and knows there are no simple answers to paying for health care. As a social worker at the Addison County Parent/Child Center, he understands the struggles parents face to provide health care for their families. Vermont has come a long way on reforming the delivery and financing of health care. And we still have a ways to go. Fisher will help us get there.
Dave Sharpe created and successfully ran a small business for 18 years. He knows the challenges and rewards of running one’s own business. Dave taught automotive technology to young adults and understands the need for good paying jobs in Vermont. Dave and his wife, Pat, were VISTA volunteers and coordinated a self-help housing project in Addison County. Dave brings to his legislative responsibilities the experience of working with Vermonters struggling to make a living, find adequate housing and provide health care for their families.
Both Fisher and Sharpe are willing to vote for their principles, which sometimes means not following the party line. They have the independence, background and experience we need in Montpelier to build a healthier and more prosperous community. I will vote for both on Nov. 4. I hope you will too.
