Local athletes compete at Thetford Woods Trail Run
THETFORD — A solid finish by the Middlebury Union High School boys highlighted local cross-country teams’ efforts at Saturday’s Thetford Woods Trail Run, a major midseason meet that drew five-dozen teams from around New England.
The Tiger boys placed five runners in the top third of the more than 800 finishers and took 16th, led by senior David Dregallo in 58th with a time of 18:26.92 of the 5K course. All five scoring Tiger runners finished in 19:20.82 or better and in at least 176th place.
Sophomore Chris Carter led the Mount Abraham boys by taking 193rd. Overall, the Eagles finished 50th.
Wesley Miedema, a senior, led the Vergennes boys in 327th (20:25.59). Overall, the Commodores were 52nd.
Otter Valley’s Emmett Thurston ran as an individual and finished in 196th in 19:35.97.
The Mount Abraham girls took 36th for the best effort among the area girls’ teams. Ally Hoff led the Eagles by taking 199th in 23:57.20.
VUHS runner Paige Stolen had the best time among local girls’ runners on the rainy Saturday, however, taking 156th in 23:27.54. The Commodores took 44th.
The MUHS girls were 38th, with Emily Fleming leading the way in 207th place (23:57.82).
Kendra Stearns led a non-scoring OV contingent by taking 300th in 25:03.68.
