Vergennes Legion to host scrap metal drive this week

VERGENNES — Vergennes American Legion Post 14 members will be accepting scrap metal on the evenings of Monday through Friday, Oct. 6-10, at the Armory Lane Legion garage. Post members will accept metal from 4-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and on Friday from 4-5 p.m. before the October Fish Fry. No amount of clean metal is too small.
Members will take donations of copper (currently $0.70 to $2.50 per pound), brass, mixed metals; aluminum lawn furniture that will no longer gracefully support you, scrap steel or stainless steel, lead, wheel weights, starters, alternators, cast iron, broken gold or silver jewelry, copper wire, scrap from plumbing jobs, clean aluminum food and beverage cans, nuts and bolts, brass couplings, scrap from electrical jobs. They will also accept auto batteries and catalytic converters.
Proceeds will benefit youth scholarships and awards given by American Legion Post 14, Vergennes. Post 14 gives over $18,000 each year to Post-sponsored scholarships and awards for the Boy Scouts, American Legion Baseball, Law Cadet Training, Green Mountain Boys’ State and local high schools.
A Post member will greet donors and reserves the right to decline unacceptable donations.
