Field hockey: Otters and Eagles lose, Tigers split
ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school field hockey in the latter half of last week, Middlebury split two games, Otter Valley lost a close game on the road, and Mount Abraham lost two more close contests.
TIGERS
On Wednesday, host Champlain Valley (5-1-1) edged MUHS, 1-0, in overtime. All three of the Tigers’ losses have come in OT. Shots on goal were even: CVU goalie Tashia Pashby-Rockwood made six saves, while the Tigers’ Baily Ryan stopped five shots.
On Saturday, the Tigers blanked winless Colchester, 7-0, to improve to 4-3-1. Lauren Bartlett scored four times to pace the rout, and Sara Kelley, Makayla Foster andLily Smith added a goal apiece. Ryan made five stops, while Laker goalie Abby Ladd was credited with 19 saves.
OTTERS
On Friday, undefeated host Bellows Falls edged OV, 2-1, by scoring one goal late in the first half and another midway through the second. OV answered with 9:10 remaining in the second when Allison Lowell pushed one by BF goalie Quinn Lawrence (seven saves). OV goalie Myliah McDonough stopped five shots as the Otters dropped to 6-2 with the loss in the Marble Valley League showdown.
EAGLES
On Wednesday, the Eagles fell to host South Burlington, 1-0, in OT. Mount Abe had a slight edge in shots on goal: Rebel goalie Liz Sargent made five saves as her team improved to 4-3, while Eagle goalie Danielle Morse stopped three shots.
On Friday, host Essex, the defending Division I champions, defeated the 3-5 Eagles, 2-0, despite Morse’s 16 saves. The defending D-II champion Eagles’ losing and scoreless streaks extended to five games.
