Rough week for local boys’ soccer squads

ADDISON COUNTY — In local boys’ soccer action in the latter half of last week, Vergennes, Middlebury and Otter Valley all dropped games. Mount Abraham was idle.
COMMODORES
VUHS (0-3) dropped its third straight one-goal game to open the season, 2-1, at Montpelier on Saturday. The 2-1-1 Solons scored twice in the first half, once on a penalty kick, and then held on for the win after Jake Dombek scored early in the second half. Solon goalie Zack VandenBergh posted six saves, while the Commodores’ Dylan Raymond stopped 11 shots.
TIGERS
On Friday, visiting Champlain Valley improved to 3-1 with a 4-0 victory over the Tigers, who dropped to 0-4 despite 14 saves from goalie Wilder Perera.
OTTERS
On Wednesday, host Black River improved to 2-2 by blanking the Otters, 5-0.
On Friday, visiting Twin Valley dealt OV a 5-1 setback. OV dropped to 0-3-1. Javier Mateos scored three times for the defending Division IV champion visitors. Connor Gallipo converted aColton Leno feed to tie the game at 1-1 midway through the first half, and Colin Nicklaw and Leno shared time in the OV goal.
