Otters run past Mill River to move into 2nd place
BRANDON — The Otter Valley Union High School football team improved to 2-1, 2-0 in Division III, by topping league foe and 2013 finalist Mill River, 42-19, on Saturday.
OV is the only team in D-III without a league loss. Six teams have 2-1 records against D-III competition and tied for second place, including Mill River. The Otters — who have lost only by one point to D-II Fair Haven — have this weekend off, and then must travel to face another D-II foe, Milton, on Sept. 27. The 2-1 Yellowjackets throttled winless Lyndon this past weekend, 55-8.
Against MRU on Saturday, OV quarterback John Winslow tossed touchdown passes to William Ross, Derek Bassette and Josef Scarborough. Carson Leary ran for a 49-yard score, Scarborough returned the second-half kickoff for a TD, and Brent Nickerson added an 11-yard TD rush. OV led, 42-6, before the Minutemen tacked on the final two scores.
