Local adult tennis teams enjoyed success

MIDDLEBURY — Adult tennis teams based at Middlebury Indoor Tennis enjoyed what MIT owner David Ignat called “probably the best ever” season of competition in Vermont league play and regional competition over this past winter, spring and summer.
Statewide, MIT teams compiled a 76-38 record, while eight of them qualified to play for New England titles by winning their divisions.
Once those eight teams reached regional play, they compiled an overall record of 15-13. One team, Netrix, reached a sectional semifinal and lost a close match to the eventual New England champion.
Players competing in that tournament were Bill Provost, Jill Dunn, Jan Bark, Ken Schoen, Heather Potter, and Kurt Suchomel. Other members of the team during the regular season were Brian McDonough, Carrie Wulfman, Michele Butler, Nan Carpenter and Graham Clark.
Ignat said a team with a similar roster and captained by Schoen and Bark, El Medio Bays, also won its district tournament and a pair of section matches before falling.
Other teams that fared well were Mix N Match and Match.Net, which were captained by Sara Marshall, Karen Shackett and Edwina Ho.
