MIDDLEBURY — The Addison Central Supervisory Union has hired David Boucher to serve as its new business manager. He most recently served as chief financial officer at Rice Memorial High School.
Boucher officially begins his job with the ACSU on Sept. 2. He was one of 20 applicants for the position, according to ACSU Superintendent Peter Burrows. Boucher will replace former Business Manager Laura Nassau, who left this past June to take a similar position with the Chittenden South Supervisory Union.
Boucher has worked for Rice Memorial for six years. Prior to that, he was an employee with the Internal Revenue Service for six years. He was also formerly a partner in a certified public accounting firm.
Burrows is pleased with Boucher’s hiring and is confident he will perform well. His duties will include budget planning for all of the ACSU’s schools, including Middlebury Union middle and high schools and the elementary schools in Bridport, Cornwall, Middlebury, Salisbury, Shoreham, Ripton and Weybridge.
“He’s got a proven track record and has exceptional bookkeeping and accounting skills,” Burrows said. “He’s a real team player.”
Boucher lives in Williston and is “extremely fond of the Middlebury area,” according to Burrows.
“We are really excited to have him on board,” he added.
In other ACSU news:
•  All of the district-member towns will hold meetings in September to gather more input for the ACSU’s first-ever strategic plan. That plan will clearly define and codify the ACSU’s educational priorities for children educated in the district’s seven elementary schools along with MUMS and MUHS. The composition of a 15-member ACSU Strategic Plan Steering Committee and the exact dates of those upcoming September community meetings will soon be announced by district officials.
•  Burrows is scheduled on Wednesday, Aug. 27, to embark on his second annual “Tour de Schools” bicycle trek, during which he will cycle to all of the ACSU schools to interact with students and teachers. Burrows, an avid cyclist, emphasized the importance of physical fitness during his inaugural tour last year. This time, he will ask students to commit to service to their school and/or community. He will ask the students to write down, on a card, a specific service commitment they will make this academic year. He will then collect the cards and place them in a collage that will be photographed.
•  The ACSU has neared completion of a formal lease and shared-use arrangement between the UD-3 school district and the town of Middlebury related to the new recreation facility and student-athlete team rooms that will be built off Creek Road.
