Local primary election candidates profiled

ADDISON COUNTY — When voters in Addison County go to the polls for the primary election on Tuesday, Aug. 26, they will have one contested race for a Vermont House seat and several candidates seeking to get enough votes to qualify to get on the General Election ballot.
In the past few months the Addison Independent has published profiles of candidates involved in competitive elections. Click on the links below to read about these candidates.
MIDDLEBURY RACE
Democratic candidates for the Addison-1 (Middlebury) House seat
•  Rep. Betty Nuovo
•  Donna Donahue
•  Amy Sheldon
The two candidates who emerge from the Aug. 26 Democratic primary will go on to join two independents — Calvin McEathron, a Middlebury College student, and former UD-3 school board member Tom Hughes — in a four-way runoff for the two available seats.
VERGENNES AREA
There’s no primary scheduled in Addison-3, but Addison farmer Peter Briggs is asking voters in that House district to support his write-in campaign so that his name can appear on the Nov. 4 ballot.
In the General Election voters in Addison-3 (Vergennes, Ferrisburgh, Addison, Panton and Waltham) will also see Reps. Diane Lanpher, D-Vergennes, and Warren Van Wyck, R-Ferrisburgh, on the ballot for the two-seat district, as well as Addison Democrat John Spencer.
SIDE JUDGE WRITE-IN RACE
There are three Addison County side-judge candidates:
•  Alice George of Middlebury
•  Mark Smith of Middlebury
•  Irene Poole of Ripton
