Vermont State Police Log: Troopers conducting sobriety checks

ADDISON COUNTY — On Saturday, Aug. 16, at 5 p.m. Vermont State Police rushed to a one-car crash on Morgan Road in Salisbury. Police said the 16-year-old driver of the Honda Accord had fallen asleep at the wheel and traveled off the roadway, overturning in a ditch.
The driver, who sustained a broken elbow, was taken to a local hospital by a family member. The car was a total loss. State police do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
In other recent activity, state police:
•  On Aug. 17 at 1:16 a.m. stopped a vehicle driven by Jeremy Jennings, 31, of Bristol on Hewitt Road in Bristol for a traffic infraction. Police cited him for driving with a criminally suspended license.
•  On Aug. 17 at 5:50 p.m. responded to a two-vehicle collision on Bristol Road in Monkton. Police report that Connie J. Allen-Cousino, 57, of Bristol was driving a Volvo S70 southbound on Bristol Road in Monkton when her steering locked up and she crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, striking a northbound Lincoln LS driven by 77-year-old Charles Weisenbach of North Ferrisburgh. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and Allen-Cousino was treated by the Bristol Rescue Squad for stiffness in her knee. Both vehicles sustained major damage. State police do not believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision.
•  Troopers from the New Haven barracks, in conjunction with municipal and county law enforcement, will be conducting checkpoints throughout Addison County over the last two weeks of August.  Removing impaired operators and seatbelt enforcement will be the primary objectives of this enforcement effort. Police remind everyone to buckle up and use designated drivers if they have been drinking alcohol.
