Runners test their mettle in Goshen Gallop trail races
GOSHEN — Brothers Jeremy, 25, and Justin Scheid, 28, of Sparta, N.J., came in together to win the 10K race in a time of 40:56, and Kevin Canty, 27, of Proctor, N.Y., claimed the 5K title in 25:04 at this past Saturday’s 36th annual Goshen Gallop. The challenging trail race attracted 85 runners.
Elisa Bradley, 30, of Portland, Maine, was the women’s 10K winner (49:06) and Caitlin Canty, who was listed in race results as 64 years old and from Proctor, won the women’s 5K in 29:30.
“It was a great race with lots of local sponsors all helping to make it possible to raise a little money for the bridge repair on the Blueberry Hill trail system,” said Shari Brown of the Blueberry Hill Inn, where the races started and finished.
In the 5K race the winner and local finishers were:
1. Canty, 25:04; 2. Jack Christner, Ripton, 27:21; 3. R.J. Adler, Middlebury, 29:25; 5. Barney Hodges, Cornwall, 30:01; and 13. Ben Turner, Middlebury, 35:52.
In the 10K race the winners and local finishers were:
1. Jeremy and Justin Scheid, 40:56; 4. Josh Hummel, Middlebury, 44:56; 5. Sam Hodges, Cornwall, 48:59; 12. Jeff Byers, Middlebury, 53:17; 15. Emilio Gomez, Goshen, 54:10; 17. Rick Bunt, Middlebury, 55:17; 18. Cade Christner, Ripton, 55:32; 19. Warren Foster, Middlebury, 55:40; 25. Caitlin Cusack, Bristol, 57:18; 39. Sophia Hodges, Cornwall, 1:04:52; 44. Logan Price, Middlebury, 1:07:18; 50. Laura Turner, Middlebury, 1:08:40; and 52. Wendy Hollander, Middlebury, 1:09:52.
