BRISTOL — Officers in the Bristol Police Department were active during the month of June, as can be seen in the log recently submitted to the newspaper by Chief Kevin Gibbs.
During the month, Bristol police:
•  On June 1 at 3:29 a.m. assisted Vermont State Police with a traffic stop and consent search on suspicion of driving under the influence and drug possession.
•  On June 1 conducted a Click It Or Ticket task force in New Haven, and issued two citations and five warnings.
•  On June 1 received information about a possible Internet scam. The caller reported receiving an email, allegedly from the FBI Anti-Terrorist Monitoring Crimes Division, indicating $10.5 million had been transferred to their account, and they would be charged with money laundering if they did not respond. Police referred the case to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
•  On June 2 at 12:30 a.m. responded to the Lathrop Mill for an accidentally tripped alarm.
•  On June 2 at 9:49 p.m. checked the welfare of a district resident, but no one was home. The resident was later located safe.
•  On June 3 at 10 a.m. received a complaint that someone had driven a dirt bike from the Kountry Trailer Park through the town landfill. Police were unable to locate the rider.
•  On June 3 received information about a truancy problem involving students at Mount Abraham Union High School. Police said criminal action is being taken against a parent.
•  On June 3 at 2:44 p.m. assisted a South Street resident who was suffering a medical issue. The man was taken to the hospital.
•  On June 3 at 3:04 p.m. responded to an alarm at the Bristol Police Department, and said it was accidentally tripped by a citizen who had entered the building through an unlocked door.
•  On June 4 arrested Timothy Joseph Clodgo, 48, of Bristol after police said he used his vehicle to block in a woman in the Shaw’s parking lot who he believed had tailgated him on North Street. Police said Clodgo then shouted at the woman through her open driver’s side window. Police later located Clodgo and arrested him on suspicion of simple assault and unlawful restraint. Police issued a ticket to the woman for following too closely.
•  On June 4 at 3:14 p.m. received an unfounded report of a burglary.
•  On June 4 at 9:14 p.m. talked to a resident whose son reported one of his friends was contemplating self-harm. The resident said the incident had been handled by school staff.
•  On June 4 at 6:18 p.m. advised a town resident of the death of a family member.
•  On June 5 at 10:23 a.m. responded to a tripped alarm at the Bristol Police Department, and determined it was accidentally tripped by a resident who entered the building through an unlocked door.
•  On June 6 served five subpoenas on behalf of the Addison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
•  On June 6 received a report of potential child abuse by a resident, who said she saw bruising on a child during a visit. Police documented the injuries and sent a report to the Department of Children and Families. Police later determined the injuries were the result of a “legitimate injury.”
•  On June 6 at 11:20 p.m. assisted VSP with an accident investigation on Plank Road, in which police cited the driver for careless and negligent operation.
•  On June 7 provided security at the MAUHS graduation without incident.
•  On June 7 assisted a resident who suffered shoulder pain after a fall at a North Street home. The Bristol Rescue Squad took the man to the hospital.
•  On June 8 received a report of two men smoking marijuana at a picnic table at a West Street business. The men left before police arrived.
•  On June 8 at 3:32 p.m. were present, at the request of a parent, for the exchange of custody of children for visitation purposes.
•  On June 9 at 2:27 a.m. found several teens skateboarding in the middle of North Street. Police spoke with the teens, and also returned a skateboard that they had earlier found.
•  On June 9 at 9:59 a.m. responded to a Pleasant Street home where the resident said a woman had stolen her cordless phone. Police spoke with the alleged phone burglar, who admitted entering the home but said she did not take anything. Police issued a citation to the woman for trespassing.
•  On June 9 at 3:55 p.m. responded to West Pleasant Street where a man said a white car had repeatedly sped by his house. Police were unable to locate that car, but did ticket another motorist for driving through a stop sign.
•  On June 9 at 4 p.m. took a complaint from a West Pleasant Street man who said he was being harassed over the phone by a Kountry Trailer Park woman. Police found his allegation did not warrant a criminal charge.
•  On June 10 at 9:18 a.m. assisted town highway employees by directing traffic as they painted crosswalks at an intersection.
•  On June 11 ticketed an MAUHS student for using tobacco on school grounds.
•  On June 11 at 10 p.m. patrolled West Street with VSP, but issued no traffic citations.
•  On June 13 at 2:03 a.m. an officer, while driving in one of the department’s cruisers, struck a deer on South Lincoln Road. Police notified state police and Fish and Game officials. The vehicle sustained minor damage.
•  On June 13 at 2:10 p.m. responded to a Mountain View residence where Roy LaRose, 88, had died. The Medical Examiner determined the death to be of natural causes.
•  On June 13 at 9:03 p.m. encountered Misty Stowell at the Lord’s Prayer Rock, arrested her on an outstanding warrant, and lodged her at the Chittenden County Correctional Center.
•  On June 14 at 3:37 p.m. advised a Lauritsen Lane resident to be conscious of the sound of his truck stereo after receiving a noise complaint from a neighbor.
•  On June 14 at 6:37 p.m. received a report of a speeding, blue convertible on Mountain Street near Crescent Street. Police found the vehicle and warned the owner about speeding.
•  On June 14 at 10:50 p.m. assisted state troopers in responding to an assault involving a baseball bat in Vergennes. Police located the subject at the intersection of Routes 17 and 23, and arrested him.
•  On June 15 took a report of property damage at a gas pump at Champlain Farms, where a Vergennes woman had driven away with the pump nozzle still attached to her vehicle. The business took insurance information from the woman.
•  On June 16 at 2:37 p.m. took a report of a dog left in a hot car with the windows cracked. When an officer arrived, the vehicle was gone.
•  On June 17 at 12:47 a.m. an officer on foot patrol found a small tin containing rolling papers and a trace amount of marijuana at the town bandstand. Police said the owner of the tin is welcome to pick it up at the police department.
•  On June 17 at 9:12 a.m. responded to a South Street apartment where a resident had locked himself and his fiancée in a bedroom after an argument with his father. The man said his father had thrown a coffee mug at him after finding dirty dishes in the sink. Police suggested to all involved that such disputes could be handled differently.
•  On June 17 at 2:04 p.m. a tractor-trailer veered off East Street and over an embankment, causing the closure of one lane of traffic. The road was closed entirely from 6 to 9:30 p.m. so crews could remove the truck from the embankment.
•  On June 18 at 1:46 p.m. responded to a report that two motorcyclists were driving around the grounds of MAUHS. The motorcyclists were gone when police arrived, and caused minor damage to athletic fields.
•  On June 18 at 5:25 p.m. assisted a landlord in serving an eviction notice to a tenant, which was done without incident.
•  On June 18 at 9:54 p.m. received a report of teenagers being loud while swimming at a neighboring residence. The caller said the teens used profanity when he asked them to quiet down. The teens had gone inside when police arrived, but police spoke with the adult resident of the home.
•  On June 20 at 6:30 p.m. responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries on Route 116. The motorist declined medical help.
•  On June 20 at 10:25 p.m. responded to a report of drug use at a West Street business, but did not locate any drugs or paraphernalia.
•  On June 21 at 1 p.m. provided security at the Pocock Rocks! annual street festival, without incident.
•  On June 21 at 4:10 p.m., during the festival, a venue owner found a small brown bottle containing approximately 12 nitro pills. The pills were expired, and police threw them out.
•  On June 21 at 7:43 p.m. responded to a reported drug transaction in progress at the town park where teenagers had congregated. Police found no one there when they arrived.
•  On June 21 at 10:51 p.m. responded to a Main Street apartment for a reportedly drunk woman. The woman was gone when police arrived, and a man who lived at the residence said she had assaulted him. Police did not find enough evidence to substantiate the allegation.
•  On June 22 at 3 p.m. patrolled Burpee Road and issued one ticket for speeding.
•  On June 22 police located a boat that had been stolen from the construction company working on the South Street bridge. The boat, used to cross the river at the construction site, was reported stolen on May 14. Police returned the boat to the construction crew.
•  On June 23 conducted a Governor’s Highway Safety Program patrol and issued two tickets and three warnings for speeding.
•  On June 23 at 9:03 a.m. helped a driver change a tire on East Street by the Lord’s Prayer Rock.
•  On June 23 cited Cassandra Fraser-Brown, 23, of Bristol on suspicion of possessing heroin. Police stopped Fraser-Brown at 11:03 a.m. for failing to signal a turn. Fraser-Brown gave police permission to search her vehicle, which turned up needles, packaging, spoons and tourniquets. Police found no heroin, but found the paraphernalia sufficient to cite her.
•  On June 23 at 1:38 p.m. received a complaint from a resident who said someone had called his home, purporting to be a car loan salesman. The resident was alarmed that the caller knew his Social Security number and other personal information. Police are following up on the incident.
•  On June 24 at 11:24 a.m. assisted state troopers with a reported burglary in progress. Police determined the alleged burglar was a former resident there to retrieve personal property.
•  On June 24 cited Alara Bourgeois, 20, of Bristol for driving with a criminally suspended license.
•  On June 24 at 10:02 p.m. assisted a resident who reported receiving unwanted text messages. Police told the sender to stop sending messages.
•  On June 24 at 10:48 p.m. responded to West Street where a caller complained that a man and woman were driving around to harass the caller. Police told the caller that since the man and woman were driving on a public highway, and the caller had no court order of protection, no crime had been committed.
•  On June 24 took a report of a truant student from staff at MAUHS.
•  On June 24 at 10:26 p.m. cited Damian Scott Sulger, 20, of Bristol for first-degree aggravated domestic assault and lying to police. Police said Sulger had been involved in a fight at a Main Street residence and pulled a gun on another man. Sulger had left the apartment before police arrived, but police found him on Garfield Street and arrested him, and also seized the gun as evidence.
•  On June 26 at 7:28 a.m. received a report of a vehicle with no license plates parked in front of the Bristol Post Office. The vehicle was gone when police arrived.
•  On June 26 at 12:41 p.m. assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a woman on North Street who was suffering chest pains.
•  On June 26 at 5:18 p.m. investigated a two-vehicle accident in the parking lot of the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union, where two drivers had backed into each other.
•  On June 26 responded to MAUHS where a resident said that men had driven ATVs to the school from the Kountry Trailer Park. Police said they were the same men driving on school grounds on June 18.
•  On June 26 at 7:28 p.m. provided care to a person in need of medical assistance on North Street until an ambulance arrived.
•  On June 26 at 9:15 p.m. received a complaint of a landlord-tenant dispute on East Street. The tenant said she thought the landlord had harassed her family by conducting repeated inspections after serving her with a 30-day eviction notice. Police began an investigation into possible fraud related to state housing assistance.
•  On June 27 investigated a Facebook post that was possibly about stolen property.
•  On June 28 at 1:21 p.m. patrolled Burpee Road, Plank Road and Route 17, but issued no citations.
•  On June 29 cited David Romeo Lisboa, 38, of Williston for providing false information to law enforcement. Police the day before had responded to a car accident at the intersection of Monkton Road and Bristol Road, where they found a car overturned in a ditch next to the road. Lisboa, who was present at the scene, told police a family member had been driving the vehicle, and had left the area on foot to seek help. Police said Lisboa then changed his story, and said the family member had gotten a ride away from the scene with a stranger, and feared being arrested on outstanding warrants.
Police asked Lisboa to ask the family member to return to the scene for questioning, but Lisboa was unable to do so. Police also determined during this time that the vehicle in the ditch was the only one that was registered to anyone in Lisboa’s family. Lisboa then admitted to being the driver, and said he had lied to police because he worried he was going to be arrested for “issues related to his operator’s license.” Police determined Lisboa’s license had civil violations, and issued him a civil violation complaint for driving without a valid license.
•  On June 28 at 10:42 p.m. received a report of a suspicious man carrying a backpack near a West Street business. Separately, female employees of the business told police a man had attempted to lure them into his vehicle. Police determined the suspicious vehicle was owned by a concerned citizen who was also reporting the man with the backpack as suspicious. Police determined the man with the backpack posed no threats to the public.
•  On June 29 at 9 a.m. patrolled Burpee and Plank roads, but observed no violations.
•  On June 29 at 9:27 a.m. responded to Maplefields for a report of vandalism, where a crossing sign had been knocked down. Police identified a suspect and said they are following up.
•  On June 29 at 11:15 a.m. helped a resident break into a vehicle where a child was locked inside. The child was not harmed.
•  On June 29 assisted state police troopers with a reported family fight on Route 116 South. The fight was verbal in nature, and no crimes were committed.
•  On June 29 at 6:30 p.m. cited Alara Bourgeois, 20, for driving with a suspended license, her second citation in the month of June.
•  On June 30 patrolled Monkton, Burpee and Stoney Hill roads, and issued one speeding ticket.
