VNRC hires new outreach coordinator
MONTPELIER — Bristol native Keil Corey will in mid-August join the staff of the Vermont Natural Resources Council in Montpelier as membership and outreach coordinator.
For almost two years, Corey has been an AmeriCorps member, working in the VNRC offices as a community energy and climate action organizer.
He has a BA in government with a minor in environmental studies from Skidmore College. He has worked on wildlife migration projects in Grand Teton National Park with the National Parks Conservation Association and on environmental policy issues including electronic waste, hydrofracking, and health issues related to climate change with the Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter. He also has spent time working in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Nicaragua, and the Brazilian Amazon.
Corey, who grew up in Bristol, says he is thrilled to be tackling important issues in his home state.
“The Vermont Natural Resources Council’s roots run deep here, and in my opinion its staff are some of the best thinkers and doers in the state who are shaping a more sustainable and prosperous future for Vermont,” he said. “I feel privileged to have this opportunity to work with VNRC as the membership and outreach coordinator.”
Over the last two years as an AmeriCorps member at VNRC, Corey worked with the Vermont Energy and Climate Action Network — the state’s network of over 100 town energy committees and supporting nonprofits — to help start, support and strengthen town energy committees across the state.
“Keil has proven himself to be a hard working, effective organizer who has strong outreach skills,” said Brian Shupe, VNRC’s executive director. “We are very pleased he has agreed to join the VNRC team.”
VNRC’s membership and outreach position has been most recently held by Mari Zagarins, who is headed to the University of Vermont to pursue an advanced degree in accounting.
Corey resides in Montpelier.
