VERGENNES — Vergennes police on June 23 issued four citations after stopping a tractor-trailer unit for doing twice the posted speed limit on West Main Street — 60 mph in a 30 mph zone.
City police cited the driver for doing in excess of 21 mph over the posted speed in a commercial vehicle and for driving a commercial vehicle with a disqualified license.
Police also cited the company, Getta S of Georgia, for putting an unregistered vehicle on the road and for the condition of the truck, and they impounded the vehicle.
In other incidents between June 23 and 29, Vergennes police helped four motorists get into their locked vehicles, two on Panton Road, one on Monkton Road and one on East Street, and:
•  On June 23 rescinded a no-trespass order at the request of a Main Street apartment resident.
•  On June 23 received a tip about illegal drug activity.
•  On June 24 were told about a theft of a bike from a School Street home; police said they have a suspect.
•  On June 24 began investigating a case in which sugar was poured into the gas tank of a car parked on Green Street.
•  On June 26 checked the health of a man near the Bixby Library who was reported to be ill, but found he was OK.
•  On June 26 handled a case of a dog biting a postal worker on West Main Street; the dog was quarantined and given its shots.
•  On June 26 checked out a damaged storage unit door behind Kennedy Brothers and discovered it had been hit by a truck.
•  On June 26 removed a three-year-old child from a home at the request of the Department of Children and Families.
•  On June 26 went to Addison on behalf of Vermont State Police to check a report of a machete-wielding man on state wildlife land, but found no one.
•  On June 27 checked out a report of two men arguing on White Street, but found no one.
•  On June 28 told two juveniles hanging around a New Haven Road business to move along.
•  At a June 28 Main Street stop for speeding arrested Deanna Miller, 32, of Vergennes on an outstanding warrant for embezzlement and lodged her at the Chittenden County Correctional Center. She also was ticketed for speeding.
•  On June 28 responded to two two-car accidents, one minor on West Main Street and one at the intersection of West Main and Canal streets in which both cars were at least moderately damaged.
•  On June 28 began investigating break-ins to three cars parked at the Monkton Road armory. Police said an iPod and possibly three checkbooks were stolen.
•  On June 28 backed up VSP in Panton at a trespassing case that also involved marijuana.
•  On June 29 helped VSP by responding to an accident on Route 22A in Panton near the city.
•  On June 29 dealt with a minor two-car accident on Monkton Road.
•  On June 29 responded to a report of an ATV accident on MacDonough Drive, but found nothing.
•  On June 29 backed up VSP while they arrested a disorderly woman at a store in New Haven.
•  On June 29 responded to Panton on behalf of VSP to deal with a report of a man who was drunk and distraught after an argument with a woman and said to be threatening suicide with a knife. Police learned that had he gone for a walk to calm down and found him and determined he was OK.
