Panther swim team opens by tipping Winooski
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Panthers cruised past visiting Winooski, 323-106, on Tuesday as the Champlain Valley Swim League season opened for both teams.
Nick Merrill led the way for Middlebury by sweeping all four under-18 boys’ races.
Three Panther girls won three events each: Meghan Denton won the U-8 butterfly, backstroke and freestyle; Ivy Kate Doran won the U-10 butterfly, backstroke and freestyle; and Annie Bolton won the U-14 butterfly, backstroke and freestyle.
Two Middlebury boys also won three times apiece: Thomas Denton won the U-10 butterfly, backstroke and freestyle, while Oliver Poduschnick prevailed in the U-12 butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle.
Jack St. Peter won two U-8 boys races outright for the Panthers, the backstroke and freestyle, while Archie Milligan and Jacob Brookman tied for first in the U-14 butterfly and each won another race, Milligan the backstroke and Brookman the freestyle.
Winning one race apiece for the Panthers were:
• Sam Wootten, boys’ U-8 breaststroke.
• Holly Staats, girls’ U-10 breaststroke.
• Fynn Whitlock, boys’ U-10 freestyle.
• Will Carpenter, boys’ U-12 backstroke.
• Julian Schmitt, boys’ U-14 breaststroke.
• Reubie Bolton, girls’ U-18 breaststroke.
