Mt. Abe seeks board member

BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham Union Middle/High School Board is looking for a Bristol resident to fill a vacancy that has opened on the 13-member panel.
The vacancy was created after board member Amanda Fox resigned before the completion of her term, citing scheduling issues and her family’s plans to leave Bristol.
“As of June I was no longer able to attend a Tuesday evening meeting,” Fox told the Independent. “We are also in plans to move out of Bristol — my commute to Burlington has just gotten too long, so I thought it would be better to have someone from the community who had long plans to stay here to take my seat.”
Fox said she was disappointed to leave, praised the work of her colleagues and urged fellow Bristol residents to consider filling her spot.
“Mount Abraham’s school board is an excellent organization comprised of a group of really caring people,” Fox said. “I learned a great deal about Mount Abe and our community, and I’m looking forward to the renovation (of the school building).”
Fox said she is looking forward to the implementation of a proposed renovation that the board and community have researched for the past year.
“With all the hard work the school staff and faculty have put into transforming Mount Abe into a 21st-century institution, they and the students deserve a building that is as progressive as their ideas,” Fox said.
The board asks applicants to submit letters of interest by Monday, July 14. If there are enough qualified candidates, the board plans to appoint new members at its meeting at 5:30 p.m. that evening.
Letters of interest can be emailed to [email protected], or mailed to 72 Munsill Ave., Suite 601, Bristol, VT 05443.
As of Monday, ANeSU data and communications specialist Karen Wheeler said that the district had not received any letters of interest.
