ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police troopers working out of the New Haven barracks reported few incidents between May 12 and 19. The most notable may have come on May 12, when troopers received a report from the Starksboro Town Office of a burglary.
Police said their investigation suggests that someone forcibly entered the storage shed next to the town office that holds the town’s recreation equipment. The assailant(s) then apparently broke into the town office, vandalized it and removed the copper water pipes from the basement.

Separately, state police also stopped two people for driving under the influence within a couple hours last weekend.
First, state police stopped Aaron Trombley, 28, of Salisbury on Lake Dunmore Road in Salisbury on May 17 at 10:15 p.m. for allegedly driving 21 mph over the posted speed limit. During the stop Trombley showed signs of intoxication and was processed for DUI at the New Haven state police barracks and cited.
A few hours later, at 12:17 a.m. on May 18, policed stopped a truck driven by John Brown, 69, of Bristol on Hewitt Road in Bristol for several traffic infractions. Police transported Brown to the New Haven barracks and cited him for DUI.
In other recent activity, troopers:
•  On May 14 at 8:30 p.m., while investigating a series of car breaks in the Lake Dunmore area, stopped a suspicious vehicle and found that the female had a suspended license. Police also noted a passenger in the back seat whom they identified as Jacob Bachand, 21. They said Bachand, whom they called homeless, provided a false identity to state police in an attempt to mask his identity because he had escaped while on furlough. The trooper also said his investigation revealed that Bachand was also involved in furnishing alcohol to minors and in possession of drug paraphernalia, though he was not cited for those offenses. Police arrested Bachand, cited him for escape and giving false information to police, and lodged him at the Chittenden County Correctional Center in South Burlington.
•  On May 17 at 5:40 a.m. responded to a single-vehicle collision on Cutting Hill Road in Shoreham. Police report that 27-year-old Gabino Salntos was driving a 2008 Dodge truck when he lost control of the vehicle and drove off the side of the road and into a tree. Salntos sustained non-life threatening, minor injuries from air bag deployment; he was taken to Porter Hospital with chest pain. The trooper said he avoided serious injury because he was wearing his seat belt. The truck sustained moderate front-end damage and was towed from the scene.
