Men’s golf competes at NCAA match
GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Middlebury College men’s golf team finished 19th out of 41 qualifying teams at last week’s NCAA Division III championship tournament, which was held at the Grandover Resort’s East Course in Greensboro, N.C.
The Panthers shot 294-310 for a total of 604 over the first two days of the event — May 13 and 14 — missing the top-15 cut by five strokes. The NESCAC champions had been in seventh place after day one.
Leading the Panthers was Eric Laorr. Following a two-under round of 70 on day one, Laorr shot a 76 on the second day for a two-round total of 146, placing him in a tie for 19th as an individual.
Fitz Bowen backed up his opening-day 74 with another 74 on Day 2. During his second round, he collected 12 pars and a pair of birdies, and his two-day total of 148 put him in a tie for 41st.
Charlie Garcia recorded one birdie as part of an 82 for a two-day total of 156, while John Louie was next with a 78 for a combined score of 158 over 36 holes.
Rounding out the scoring with an 83 was Rob Donahoe to finish with a 159 (76-83), including eight pars and a birdie.
