Several Tigers top events in three-way meet
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury Union High School track and field athletes won a half-dozen events on Thursday at Middlebury College while hosting two top Division I programs.
Overall, the Burlington boys and girls both won the three-way meet, both scoring 97 points. The Tiger boys took second with 50 points, followed by Essex at 39. Essex was second in the girls’ competition with 62 points, followed by the Tiger girls (27).
Leading the way for the Tiger boys was thrower Jake Trautwein, who won the discus and javelin events and finished second in the shot put only when the winner, BHS’s Tobias Muellers, came up big on his last toss of the competition.
Also winning for the Tiger boys was David Dregallo at 3,000 meters, Max Moulton at 800 meters, and the four-by-400 meter relay team of Moulton, Naina Horning, Sam Ferguson and Nathan Peck.
Hannah Buttolph soared to a win in the high jump for the Tiger girls, besting the second-place finisher by four inches, while Katherine Townshend placed in two sprinting events and ran on two second-place relay teams.
Points were awarded for the top four finishers in the individual events and the top two finishers in the relays.
