Eagle track and field rolls in five-team meet
BRISTOL — Both the Mount Abraham Union High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams won the team competition in a meet the Eagles hosted on Tuesday. The Vergennes boys’ team came in third overall and the Commodore girls were fourth.
The team scores in the girls’ competition were: Mount Abe, 157; Montpelier, 48; Randolph, 37; VUHS, 32; and Winooski, 30. On the boys’ side, it was Mount Abe, 149; Montpelier, 78; VUHS, 64; Randolph, 36; and Winooski, 20.
The Eagle boys won the 4X800-meter relay and four individual events: Henry Koenig, high jump; Sam Kuhns, pole vault; Ian Bachand, discus; and Chris Carter, 110m hurdles. The Commodore boys prevailed in four field events — Chris Castillo in the long and triple jumps, and Jordan Stearns in the shot put and javelin — and the 4X100 relay.
In girls’ events, Eagle Sofia Wolak captured four firsts — 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, pole vault and 4X100 relay — while Mount Abe also got wins from its 4X400 relay, Karen Chandler, high jump; Lili Knutson, triple jump; Lillian Gratton, shotput; and Caroline Cote, discus. Commodore Paige Stolen prevailed in the 800m race for the lone Vergennes victory.
