Softball: OV, Eagles win; MUHS edged
ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school softball play, all on Tuesday, Mount Abraham and Otter Valley won big, while Middlebury lost a tight game on the road.
Vergennes’ game at St. Albans was moved from Tuesday to Wednesday, after the deadline for this edition of the Independent.
EAGLES
The Eagles pounded visiting Burlington, 17-2, in five innings, to improve to 2-0. Meghan Livingston capped a fifth-inning rally with a grand slam that ended the game on the mercy rule.
Ashley Boise added a homer for the Eagles, while Sam Reiss (three hits) and Madi Wood (two hits) also contributed to the Eagle attack. Rachel McCormick earned the pitching win.
TIGERS
The Tigers gave Division I St. Johnsbury a fight before falling, 3-2. Coach Polly Rheaume said freshman Payton Buxton pitched well in her varsity debut, going the distance. MUHS had just one hit, by Krisandra Provencher, who drove home Mikayla Foster.
OTTERS
The Otters defeated host Windsor, 15-2, for their first victory of the season after two defeats to Division I opponents. Details of the game were unavailable before deadline. The 1-2 Otters are scheduled to host Rutland on Thursday and visit Mount Abe on Saturday.
