MUHS baseball claims opener over St. Johnsbury
ST. JOHNSBURY — The Middlebury Union High School baseball team made the long bus ride to St. Johnsbury pay off on Tuesday, knocking off the Hilltoppers, 6-4, in the Tigers’ season opener.
Josiah Benoit earned the pitching win, going 6.1 innings, allowing six hits while striking out three and walking one. Aaron Smith came on to nail down the victory, allowing two hits but striking out two batters to finish the game.
Benoit also chipped in a pair of hits to the Tigers’ cause. Bryce Burrell sparked the Tiger offense by tripling, singling, driving in two runs and scoring twice, and Josh Stearns poked a two-run single.
The Tigers are scheduled to visit Rice on Thursday before hosting North Country on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
