Panther softball stands at .500

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College softball team tallied a 6-6 record during its spring trip to Clermont, Fla. The squad won five of its first seven games, but dropped four of the final five including a pair of one-run losses.
The Panthers are scheduled to play a three-game set at NESCAC West foe Amherst on Friday and Saturday, their first three league tilts of the spring. Their Wednesday home games vs. Johnson State were postponed indefinitely.
Pacing the Panther offense is rookie Sarah Freyre, who leads the team in batting average (.395), slugging percentage (.658), doubles (four), home runs (two) and RBIs (13). Sophomore Jackie Stern saw action in seven games, posting a .375 BA with five runs scored, while senior Kimber Sable led the team in runs scored (11) and walks (11) to go along with a homer and eight RBIs.
On the mound, senior Elizabeth Morris finished the trip with a 3-1 record and a 0.68 earned run average. She leads the staff with 20.2 innings pitched and 23 strikeouts. Sophomore Neve Stearns appeared in seven games with two starts. She has a 2.58 ERA with 14Ks in 19.0 innings. Sophomore Kat Maehr has a 2-0 record with a 3.96 ERA in 17.2 innings.
