BRISTOL — Bristol police recently issued a log of their activities this past December.
On Dec. 18 at 3:30 p.m. they responded to a report that a teenage girl was approached on the sidewalk between Mount Abraham Union High School and Liberty Street by a man unknown to her.
The man called the girl by the name of a different girl, and attempted to hug her. The girl refused the embrace and insisted he had mistaken her for someone else.
The man then left the area and headed toward Liberty Street. The suspect has not been identified.
In other activity in December, Bristol police completed driving under the influence patrols under the Governor’s Highway Safety Patrol program on Dec. 7, 18, 20 and 27. Warnings and at least five tickets were issued for traffic violations.
Police provided security at MAUHS basketball games, and encountered no problems, on Dec. 17, 20, 28 and 30.
Also during December, Bristol police:
•  On Dec. 1 assisted Vermont State Police with a single-vehicle crash on Mountain Road near Bristol Road. The car had veered off the road and rolled onto its side. There were no injuries and minor damage to the vehicle.
•  On Dec. 1 responded to a Mountain Street residence for a possible theft. A resident requested a trespass noticed be issued for the suspect.
•  On Dec. 2 responded to a report of a rabid skunk. No skunk was found.
•  On Dec. 2 cited town resident Travis Manning, 34, for driving with a suspended license.
•  On Dec. 2 spoke with a 13-year-old Mount Abraham Union High School student who was found with a small bag of what was believed to be marijuana. The case was referred to juvenile court.
•  On Dec. 3 arrested town resident Jason Kimball, 32, for escape. Police were notified by a probation officer that Kimball was supposed to be confined to house arrest, and was at an unauthorized location.
•  On Dec. 3 met with the Bristol Cub Scout den for a law enforcement presentation.
•  On Dec. 4 assisted state police with a car accident on Drake Woods Road involving a public transit bus and multiple injuries.
•  On Dec. 4 received a report of a hit and run that occurred in the Rite Aid parking lot Nov. 30.
•  On Dec. 4 picked up a stray dog wandering on Route 116 near Route 17 and took it to the pound.
•  On Dec. 5 responded to a North Street residence for a domestic dispute. Police found a man who was very intoxicated, and took him to Act 1 in Burlington. The man had a blood alcohol level of 0.256 percent; as a matter of comparison, the legal level for driving is 0.08.
•  On Dec. 7 assisted state police in serving a no-trespass order to a Main Street Resident.
•  On Dec. 7 investigated a suspicious vehicle at the South Street Bridge. The vehicle had been struck by construction equipment and was waiting to be towed.
•  On Dec. 8 issued a no-trespass order to an individual on behalf of a Prince Lane business.
•  On Dec. 8 responded to a West Street business for a report of a customer who was irate because the business didn’t have the funds to cash a $100 winning lottery ticket. The customer was gone by the time police arrived.
•  On Dec. 8 responded to Maplefields for a reported gas drive off. The customer’s card was not read properly by the pump, and she returned and paid for the fuel.
•  On Dec. 9 helped a resident of the Kountry Trailer Park fill out no-trespass paperwork for another resident.
•  On Dec. 10 stopped a vehicle on East Street for defective equipment. During the stop police seized a loaded rifle from the vehicle and turned it over to the Vermont Fish and Game warden.
•  On Dec. 10 responded to a West Street business for a report of a possible liquor law violation. No evidence of a violation was found.
•  On Dec. 10 investigated a bounced check that was written to the town in the amount of $663.93. The issuer of the check made restitution to avoid prosecution.
•  On Dec. 11 assisted a motorist on Stony Hill Road until a relative arrived to pick the motorist up.
•  On Dec. 12 responded to a report of a stolen cell phone. A subsequent call alerted police that the owner had located the phone at home.
•  On Dec. 13 responded to a Lauritsen Lane residence for a tripped alarm. No carbon monoxide or fire was found.
•  On Dec. 14 completed a welfare check on a South Street resident, who a family member said was suicidal. Police calmed the situation.
•  On Dec. 14 had a vehicle parked on Main Street towed for violating the town’s winter parking ban.
•  On Dec. 15 responded to a burglar alarm at the town offices, and determined it was tripped accidentally by a theater production group at Holley Hall.
•  On Dec. 16 served a subpoena on behalf of the Addison County State’s Attorney in connection with a police investigation.
•  On Dec. 16 swept a home on Pine Street after the owner suspected a burglar was inside. Police found the dwelling empty.
•  On Dec. 17 responded to a domestic dispute on East Street.
•  On Dec. 17 checked the welfare of a Mountain Street resident who had not shown up for work, causing their employer to become worried. Police discovered the resident had simply overslept.
•  On Dec. 19 received a parking complaint between neighbors at the Kountry Trailer Park. The complaint was forwarded to the park owner.
•  On Dec. 20 served an abuse prevention order to a North Street resident, which required the man to leave the home.
•  On Dec. 20 assisted state police with an accident on Route 116 and Notch Road that resulted in injuries.
•  On Dec. 20 received a report of a violation of an abuse prevention order and arrested town resident Samuel Hellmuth, 36. Police say Hellmuth attempted to contact the aggrieved by phone.
•  On Dec. 23 responded to Mountain Street where a man was reportedly having seizures and was unresponsive. The man was transported to the hospital by Bristol Rescue Squad. Police suspect heroin use could have been a factor.
•  On Dec. 23 began a truancy investigation involving two MAUHS students.
•  On Dec. 24 assisted Bristol Rescue Squad with a medical call on South Street.
•  On Dec. 24 received a report that a 20-year-old man who volunteered at the Hub Teen Center was providing cigarettes to children. Police spoke with the man at his residence in New Haven, where he admitted providing cigarettes to children under 18. Police issued the man a civil violation complaint. He has since been fired as a volunteer and asked not to return to the Hub.
•  On Dec. 24 received a report that an elderly woman drove away from a gas station without paying for $39.09 worth of fuel. She was not located.
•  On Dec. 26 responded to a Main Street apartment for a domestic dispute. A drunken man was taken to a friend’s house to defuse the situation.
•  On Dec. 27 completed a patrol in the area of Monkton Road and Hardscrabble Road and issued one ticket and one warning.
•  On Dec. 27 received a report of a stolen iPhone from a Main Street business.
•  On Dec. 27 assisted state police in securing the scene of an accident on Upper Notch Road.
•  On Dec. 27 conducted a patrol of Route 116, Route 17 and Burpee Road. Police issued two tickets and five warnings.
•  On Dec. 28 received a complaint from the guardian of an elderly resident of a care facility in Bristol. The guardian said she removed the elderly woman from the facility for her well-being, and said she had difficulty getting the woman’s belongings from the facility.
•  On Dec. 28 assisted state police at a burglary in progress on Deerleap View. An ATV was recovered that troopers believed was stolen earlier in the year.
•  On Dec. 28 assisted the Bristol Rescue Squad in lifting a woman at a West Street apartment.
•  On Dec. 28 responded to a report of suspicious activity on Main Street. The woman who called said her neighbor had been disorderly and simply wanted the incident to be documented.
•  On Dec. 31 received a complaint from a resident that a package had been stolen from her vehicle while parked in the Shaw’s parking lot. The package was located in the complainant’s vehicle behind the back seat.
•  On Dec. 31 participated in a countywide, multi-jurisdictional checkpoint on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh, at the fire station. Officers from the Bristol and Vergennes police departments, the Addison County Sheriff’s Department and New Haven barracks of the state police stopped 424 cars on New Year’s Eve. No DUI arrests were made, but a Vergennes officer made an arrest for felony possession of marijuana.
