Opinion: Fracking causes many problems nationwide

We have decided in Vermont to ban “fracking.” We can be proud of that decision. How do we then justify using the product of the fracking? It is such avarice, greed and hypocrisy that it is embarrassing.
Has the Public Service Board not heard the news from Oklahoma? Over 2,000 three-point earthquakes in Oklahoma as a result of fracking. Or the water crisis in Pennsylvania due to the results of fracking? For the sake of saving dollars we are willing to let Canadians jeopardize their water and possibly our own. (We are not so far from the Canadian aquifer.) Do we not have a moral problem with what we are about to do?
What about cutting through Lake Champlain to bury potentially dangerous pipes, for the benefits of International Paper, a New York company, most likely planning to shut down in a few years anyway. Any archaeological studies planned, or is history not important when it is in conflict with corporate money?
Does this all sound bitter? Mostly it is sad.
