MUHS dancers earn third in Hip Hop, fourth in Jazz
VERGENNES — The Middlebury Union High School dance team earned third in the Hip Hop competition and fourth in the Jazz discipline at Saturday’s Vermont championships, which were held in a packed Vergennes Union High School gym.
South Burlington proved to be the evening’s big winner, prevailing both in Jazz and Pom, while Lamoille earned the Hip-Hop crown.
Hip Hop saw the most competition, with nine teams vying for the title. Lamoille prevailed with a score of 337 from the judges, with Mount Mansfield (321.5), MUHS (296.5) and Mount Anthony (273) rounding out the top four.
In the six-team Jazz contest, South Burlington won with 327.5 points, followed by Mount Mansfield (312.5), Lamoille (291.5) and MUHS (287.5) in the top four.
South Burlington won the seven-team Pom duel with 330.5 points, followed by Burr & Burton (295.5), Colchester (288), and Mount Anthony (276).
Unlike past years, officials did not announce an overall winner, which previously had been determined by adding teams’ scores in the two events in which they chose to compete.
