VERGENNES — The Vergennes Union High School cheerleading team finished third in Division I on Saturday at the state championship meet at VUHS behind two larger schools, first-place Essex and second-place Rutland.
Essex edged Rutland for the D-I title, 177-166, with VUHS in third with 119.
In D-II, Poultney (139) prevailed over Mount St. Joseph (120) and Mill River (103).
Divisions are determined by the number of participants in the squad, not by the sizes of the schools, according to Vermont Principals’ Association rules.
