Middlebury Police Log: Resident to be cited on pot charge
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police found more than 20 grams of marijuana in a North Pleasant Street apartment on Feb. 6. Police said they were given permission by the resident to search the home based on reports of a “chemical smell” emanating from the apartment. Police said charges are pending against the tenant for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of a controlled substance.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Were called to check on a Valley View Road apartment that had sustained a broken window on Feb. 3. Police have tried to contact the resident to see if anything was taken from the home.
• Assisted a local resident on Feb. 3 who had complained about Facebook postings about her family.
• Assisted Vermont State Police in arresting a man on an outstanding warrant, following a traffic stop on Seminary Street Extension on Feb. 4.
• Investigated a report of possibly stolen checks being passed at Hannaford Supermarket on Feb. 4.
• Received a report that a gold ring had been stolen from a Deerfield Lane residence on Feb. 4.
• Were informed on Feb. 5 of the alleged theft of two vials of medications from the Porter Hospital emergency room.
• Located a man on Feb. 5 who had been recently been reported missing.
• Assisted a Jackson Lane family in settling a verbal dispute on Feb. 5.
• Investigated a report of a very drunk man crawling onto the rear box of a pickup truck on Stewart Lane on Feb. 6. Police said Middlebury Advanced EMS took the man to Porter Hospital.
• Responded to a two-vehicle accident on Seymour Street, without injuries, on Feb. 7.
• Arrested Christopher Sayers, 45, of Middlebury for three counts of retail theft and one count of unlawful trespass, at the Maplefields store on North Pleasant Street on Feb. 7.
• Cited Geoffrey R. Dutton, 52, of Middlebury for driving under the influence, following a traffic stop on Valley View Road on Feb. 8.
• Went to a Valley View residence on Feb. 8 to help sort out a domestic dispute over ownership of a laptop and some paperwork.
• Contacted a young dating couple whom authorities said were “attempting to become intimate with each other” in the Middlebury Union High School parking lot on Feb. 8.
• Were informed of possible narcotics activity taking place in the restroom of a Court Street business on Feb. 8.
• Recovered a small amount of marijuana from a vehicle following a traffic stop on Court Street on Feb. 8. Police said they ticketed the vehicle owner for possession of marijuana.
• Were informed of the theft of some silver coins from a Butternut Ridge Drive home on Feb. 9.
• Responded to a noise complaint at a Court Street residence on Feb. 9.
• Responded to a report of a deceased resident at an Eastview Terrace home on Feb. 9. Police said David Seeley, 90, had died of natural causes.
