Tiger boys split games in N.Y. hockey tourney

LAKE PLACID — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team split a pair of games this past weekend in finishing second at a tournament hosted by Lake Placid, and is 10-5.
That record is good for fifth in a tight Division II race, although the Tigers are 9-1 against D-II competition — of their five losses, two have come to New York squads and two to D-I teams.
The Tigers opened in the Lake Placid tournament by defeating Shaker-Colonie, 1-0, behind Sawyer Ryan’s 27-save goaltending. Justin Stone scored the game’s only goal, with an assist from Nathan Lalonde on a second-period power play.
Host Lake Placid defeated the Tigers in Saturday’s final, 4-2, scoring twice in the game’s first 4:19 to take charge. Devin Dwire and Nick Audet, from Stone, scored for MUHS, and Ryan stopped 22 shots.
The Tigers host sixth-place Hartford on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and play at Missisquoi on Saturday.
