Opinion: New gym, offices aren’t needed
The town office and gym relocation proposals continue the town’s selectboard penchant for spending the taxpayers’ money. At some point borrowing money needs to be reined in. In recent years there have been borrowings for the police station, the bridge, water and sewage improvement, and most recently for the fire stations.
Money that is borrowed must be paid back. Through our taxes. Don’t forget that. Not just the interest, but the principal as well. Even worse than borrowing money is spending it for the wrong purpose. The town offices are not in bad shape and can be fixed up out of normal capital and maintenance budgets. The gym is a bit of an eyesore but is a solid building and can be improved in the same manner. I urge all citizens to vote against a bond issue to fund the municipal building and gym relocation.
