Indoor track athletes earn top finishes
BURLINGTON — Five Vergennes Union High School indoor track and field athletes scored points at a Saturday meet hosted by the University of Vermont at which Division I and II athletes competed and were scored together.
The Commodore boys and girls each finished 13th overall among crowded fields of teams, with D-I powers South Burlington and Essex winning the boys’ and girls’ competitions, respectively.
Chris Castillo enjoyed the most productive day, placing in two events, while Alix Kauffman, Ally Stearns, Paige Stolen and Matteo Palmer each earned one top-six finish.
Two Mount Abraham runners, Natalie May and Chris Carter, just missed point-scoring results.

• 300: 5. Castillo, V, 40.44; 8. Crowell, V, 41.24; 17. Carter, M, 42.64; 22. Leach, V, 44.44.
• 600: 9. Carter, M, 1:40.84.
• 1,000: 6. Palmer, V, 2:54.70.
• Long jump: 3. Castillo, V, 18-6.
• Triple jump: 7. Castillo, V, 35-2.
