Girls’ hockey: Tigers settle for split

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team split a pair of games at the Tigers’ own holiday tournament last week, losing a key matchup to a D-II rival before bouncing back for a shutout victory. The Tigers are 6-2.
On Thursday, Northfield (6-1-1) bested the Tigers, 4-1. Timi Carone gave MUHS a quick lead in the first minute, but the Raiders’ Kristen Dukette scored four times to give her team the win. Markie Delude made 16 saves for Northfield, while Rowan Hendy had nine stops for the Tigers.
On Friday, the Tigers blanked Mount Mansfield 5-0. Five Tigers scored: Julia Carone, Sara Boe, Sara Kelley and Timi Carone each had a goal and an assist, and Angela Carone added a goal. Baily Ryan worked a six-save shutout for MUHS, while Fiona Dulude had 23 saves for Mount Mansfield (2-6).
In the other tournament games, Burr & Burton (6-1-1) topped Mount Mansfield, 3-0, on Thursday, and the Bulldogs and Raiders skated to a 3-3 tie on Friday. Burr & Burton was declared the tournament winner. Burr & Burton, which also recently defeated MUHS, and Northfield are dueling with the Tigers for the top spot in Division II.
