Vermont State Police Log: Weybridge man cited for assault

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police cited Martin Landon, 42, of Weybridge for assault, following investigation of a citizens’ dispute at a Lafountain Lane home in Weybridge on Dec. 22. Police released Landon on citation to appear in Addison Superior Court, Criminal Division, on Feb. 24, 2014.
In other recent action, VSP:
•  Ticketed a Whiting man for speeding after he allegedly lost control of his vehicle on Route 30 in Cornwall on Dec. 17 and struck a house.
Police said Benjamin Mathis, 25, was traveling north on Route 30 in Cornwall when he came upon another vehicle in the same lane that began to slow and turn off Route 30. Police said Mathis subsequently lost control of his vehicle and traveled off the west side of the road, striking a house. Authorities said the accident caused “minimal to moderate damage” to both vehicle and the house. There were no injuries to Mathis and his three passengers, one of whom was 18 months old, the other six months old, according to police. Police said Mathis was ticketed for speeding, which carried a $214 fine and 4 license points.
•  Investigated a daytime burglary that occurred at a home on the Bristol Road in Monkton on Dec. 17. The victims told police their home was locked when they left for the day, but came home to find several items missing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the VSP at 802-388-4919. Information can also be submitted anonymously online at www.vtips.info or by texting “CRIMES” (274637) to Keyword: VTIPS.
•  Investigated a fraud case that victimized residents of an Old Jerusalem Road home in Salisbury on Dec. 17. The victims reported they had purchased tickets to an “underground supper party” alleged to have been held in June, and were never told the location of the dinner. The victims reported they were told that they would be invited to the next party free of charge and were not refunded or contacted again. The “underground supper party” is a social group where individuals or couples buy tickets to a pre-determined, fixed-price menu and are given a secret location close to the time of the event. When done properly, this allows for a fun and secretive social event for couples who have a culinary interest. Police have thus far been unable to contact the suspected private chef. Anyone with information is asked to contact VSP.
•  Responded to a two-car crash at the intersection of Route 116 and Tatro Road in Starksboro on Dec. 17.
Police said they suspect 23-year-old Katlyn Chamberlain of Bristol was distracted and speeding and that she failed to maintain a sufficient distance between her car and a vehicle in front of her. Due to the distance constraints, she was unable to avoid colliding with a large, yellow construction truck that was turning onto Tatro Road in Starksboro, according to police. The driver of that truck, Ben Turner, 23 of Bristol, was uninjured, police said. Chamberlain was transported to Porter Hospital for observation of minor injuries, according to authorities. Police said Chamberlain’s vehicle was totaled, while Turner’s truck was not damaged.
•  Cited James Waite, 28, of St. George for a criminal count of driving with a suspended license following investigation of a two-vehicle accident on Route 116 on Dec. 20.
•  Investigated a two-vehicle accident on Fuller Mountain Road in Ferrisburgh on Dec. 22. Police said Gregory Armell, 27, of Charlotte, was backing his plow-truck out of a driveway and ran into a pickup truck — being driven by Paul Gregory, 65, of Ferrisburgh — traveling in the southbound lane. Police said no one was injured in the accident.
