In girls’ hoop: Eagles win, Tigers lose
ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school girls’ basketball on Monday night, Mount Abraham won a key Division II matchup, while Middlebury came up just short of its first victory.
The Vergennes girls’ Monday home game vs. Mt. Mansfield was postponed; no new date was immediately announced. The Otter Valley girls’ game at Springfield was postponed to Jan. 25 and will be played at OV; OV’s Feb. 14 home game will be moved to Springfield.
EAGLES-SLATERS
Host Fair Haven took a 15-9 halftime lead vs. the Eagles in the first round of the Slaters’ holiday tournament and stretched its advantage to 10 early in the third period. But Mount Abe fought back to outscore Fair Haven in the second half, 28-16, and come away with a 37-31 win over another D-II title contender.
The result left both teams with a 2-1 record. Meghan Livingston finished with a game-high 11 points for the Eagles, while Bethany Lanfear led the Slaters with nine. The tournament will conclude on Friday with Fair Haven meeting Proctor at 7:30 p.m. and Mount Abe facing Burr & Burton at 6 p.m.
TIGERS
Host Winooski picked up its second close win over the Tigers this season, 29-26. Spartan Amanda Nattress hit six fourth-quarter free throws to help her team hold off MUHS and improve to 3-0. She finished with a game-high 10 points.
The Tigers fell to 0-4 despite scoring a season high in points; Krisandra Provencher led them with six.
